Grading Involvement, Timeliness,
and Communication Plan
What is the teacher’s involvement in grading?
I will be the sole grader of my students’ work. My job is not only to score work of academic achievement, but, even more importantly, to provide feedback for students on each piece of work.
How quickly and often will you grade and return student work?
I will take no more than a week to grade and return student work. This will ensure that students can apply the feedback from the assignment or assessment before moving on to new objectives.
What are the students' involvements in grading?
Students are able to access their grades on the electronic grade book as needed. In regards to the grading process, I will clearly explain my 9-point grading scale at the beginning of the year. As this will probably be a new system for many students, I will give reminders at the beginning of the year on how each assignment will contribute to the academic achievement grades or to the comment section.
How will parents, students, administrators, etc, access grades?
I will update the electronic grade book at the end of each week. Parents and students will be able to login to the grade book site and see the student’s grades for my class. Administrators will be able to access grades on that program as well. Skyward is an example of an electronic grading system that allows for this ease of communication.
How will you communicate grading with all stakeholders? (students, parents, PLC team, admin, etc)
The choir handbook that I send home to parents at the beginning of the year will include an explanation of my grading system. I require the last page of the handbook to be filled out, signed, and returned to me, which documents that parents have read and understood the handbook. There is also a section for comments if the parent has a question about my grading policy. As explained above, I will explain the 9-point system to my class at the start of the year. I will give a similar explanation to other stakeholders as needed.
